Welcome to day 16! Our focus is on detox, diet, and twists.
Detoxing or cleansing helps us get rid of toxins in our bodies. Detoxify your diet is not only with what you ingest in your mouth and into your stomach, but it also means to detox what you ingest with your mind, which reflects directly on the outcome of how you think, feel, and speak. Take a moment to ask yourself what you need to detox from…. Do you need to reduce time spent on your communication devices, social media, gossiping, complaining, judging, blaming, negative thinking, & laziness?
“It is not impermanance that makes us suffer, What makes us suffer is wanting things to be permanent when theyre not.”- Thich Nhat Hanh
Periodically survey your life and see waht areas need more attention and consciousnes. For example. Try to practice mindful consumption. Vow to ingest only items that preserve peace, well- being, and joy in your body and in your consciousness.
Realize with every new breath, there is new opportunity. You can re-start any time, all the time. Yoga helps you to remain in the present, moving forward, never looking back.
The following poses help in detoxify your mind and body, twists can aid in removing toxins, stimulate digestion by massaging your internal organs, and improve metabolism. With each pose inhale to open and lengthen and exhale to wring yourself out like a sponge, getting rid of anything you know longer want or need.
Start with a seated meditation for 5-7 min.Set an intention for yourself and your practice. It may be to inhale compassion and exhale (judgement, fear, laziness, dishonesty……..) to be fully present in this moment and to ackowlege & preserve its peace. It is your intention, dig deep to discover it. 🙂
An even deeper twisting variation is to reach for the opposite foot with your left had and the other hand reaches back, bending the elbow and setting the right hand on the inner thigh.
Twisted high lunge– Start in high lunge with the left foot foward, arms inhale reaching high, exhale right hand back and left hand foward, flip the front right palm to face up and inhale over head and back. Repeat on the other side being conscious of each breath and the poses benefits.
Seated twist- Start by sitting with both legs straight. 1.Bend your right knee and bring your right foot outside of your left leg, sit up tall and support your self by placing your right hand behind the right thigh with fingers towards the front of the mat. 2.Inhale your left arm up high and lengthen. 3.Exhale bend your left elbow and place it outide of your right knee, gaze is back over your right shoulder. Breathe here….
Bow pose: Start lying on your belly face down, with your forearms folded under your forehead. 1. Bend your knees keeping them hip width apart. Reach with your right hand for right foot/ankle and the same with the left side 2. Inhale and lift your chest off the ground. Press feet into hands. Stay still and breathe here deeping the stretch with each breath, or rock left and right massaging your abdomin. (If this is too difficult Locust Pose is a great alternative! )
Supine twist: Start by lying on your back, bend your knees to your chest and arms out to a “T” with palms facing up. Exhale drop your knees to the right as your gaze goes over the left shoulder. Inhale knees back up to center and repeat to the other side holding each side for 5 breaths.
